Squirrel fell on to Dog

Squirrel fell on to Dog

We have about 5 squirrels in our yard that love to mess with our dog. They will come down a tree till they are just out of reach and taunt him. They will jump from tree branch to tree branch and from tree to tree and the dog will follow them around the yard.

Today I let the dog out, he did his dog business and then he took up a spot in the yard where he could sit and overlook the canal. One of the squirrels was in a palm tree just over his head. The squirrel moved out on one of the palm leaves, lost his footing and fell out of the tree and on to the dog. The squirrel was frantic, the dog was stunned. The squirrel ran toward the back yard fence but could not get over or through. The dog was fast on the heels of the squirrel. The squirrel did figure 8’s with the dog right on top of him. Bosco (the dog) could not turn as sharp as the squirrel. The squirrel found an opening and headed for the oak tree with Bosco inches behind him. Up the tree the squirrel went…dog crumpled in to tree not able to maneuver as well as the squirrel. The squirrel circled around and up the tree and the dog could only watch. Bosco squeaked out a bark of disappointment. He almost had that thing!

Bosco was in full adrenalin mode…he ran around the back yard. He grabbed his flying ring and shook it viciously. The squirrel lay on a limb up in the oak tree. I think it was contemplating his near death event.

This event was what started the dogs and my day. We were both in a rush. I am sure the squirrel was also feeling it. It was a better rush than my morning coffee. 😎
